How to Check Snapchat Planets: See Your Position in a Friend’s Solar System
If you have seen someone mention their Snapchat planet, you may be wondering what it means and, more importantly, how to check yours. Snapchat’s Friend Solar System feature lets eligible Snapchat+ subscribers see where they rank in a friend’s Best Friends list by assigning a planet to that position. The closer your planet is to the Sun, the higher your position in that friend’s Best Friends list.
Checking a Snapchat planet is fairly simple once the feature is enabled. You open a friend’s Friendship Profile, look for the Best Friends badge with the gold ring, and tap it to see which planet you represent. The important detail is that this is a Snapchat+ feature, not the same thing as Snapchat’s separate Astrological Profile feature.
What Are Snapchat Planets?
Snapchat planets are part of Snapchat’s Friend Solar System feature. They show your position among another person’s Best Friends.
Snapchat says Best Friends are people you Snap and Chat with most frequently. There can be up to eight Best Friends, and Snapchat updates the list regularly.
The Friend Solar System turns those eight positions into a simplified solar-system model:
| Planet | Best Friends position |
| Mercury | 1st |
| Venus | 2nd |
| Earth | 3rd |
| Mars | 4th |
| Jupiter | 5th |
| Saturn | 6th |
| Uranus | 7th |
| Neptune | 8th |
So, if Snapchat shows you as Mercury, you occupy the first position in that friend’s Best Friends list. If you are Neptune, you occupy the eighth position.
This is why people sometimes describe Snapchat planets as a way to see how close you are to someone on Snapchat.

How to Check Snapchat Planets?
The quickest way to check your Snapchat planet is through a friend’s Friendship Profile.
Step 1: Open Snapchat
Launch the Snapchat app on your iPhone or Android phone and sign in to the account that has Snapchat+.
The exact placement of buttons can change as Snapchat updates its app, so focus on the Friendship Profile and Best Friends badge rather than relying on a particular screen layout.
Step 2: Open a Friend’s Friendship Profile
Go to the friend whose relationship with you want to check.
Open their Friendship Profile. This is the profile area Snapchat provides for your friendship with that person.
Step 3: Look for the Best Friends Badge
If you are included among that person’s Best Friends, Snapchat can show a Best Friends badge with a gold ring around it when Friend Solar Systems is available and enabled.
Snapchat defines Best Friends as the eight people with whom someone Snaps and Chats the most.
Step 4: Tap the Best Friends Badge
Tap the Best Friends badge.
Snapchat will show your position in that friend’s Solar System. The planet represents your position among their eight Best Friends.
For example:
Friend → Friendship Profile → Best Friends badge → Tap badge → Your planet
That is the basic process for checking Snapchat planets.
What Do the Snapchat Planets Mean?
The planets represent different positions in a friend’s Best Friends list.
Mercury: 1st Best Friend
Mercury represents the first position.
If Snapchat shows you as Mercury, you are the person occupying the first Best Friends position for that friend.
Venus: 2nd Best Friend
Venus represents the second position.
You are still very high on that person’s Best Friends list, but another friend currently occupies the first position.
Earth: 3rd Best Friend
Earth represents the third position in the Friend Solar System.
Mars: 4th Best Friend
Mars represents the fourth position.
Jupiter: 5th Best Friend
Jupiter represents the fifth position.
Saturn: 6th Best Friend
Saturn represents the sixth position.
Uranus: 7th Best Friend
Uranus represents the seventh position.
Neptune: 8th Best Friend
Neptune represents the eighth and final position in the eight-person Best Friends group.
The key idea is simple: the planets are ordered from Mercury to Neptune, corresponding to positions one through eight. Snapchat’s official documentation confirms that each planet represents a different position in the Best Friends list.

If you only need the answer quickly, use this chart:
| Your Snapchat Planet | Your position |
| ☿ Mercury | #1 |
| ♀ Venus | #2 |
| 🌍 Earth | #3 |
| ♂ Mars | #4 |
| ♃ Jupiter | #5 |
| ♄ Saturn | #6 |
| ♅ Uranus | #7 |

This makes it much easier to interpret the Friendmoji when Snapchat displays the Solar System.
Do You Need Snapchat+ to Check Snapchat Planets?
Yes. The Friend Solar System is a Snapchat+ feature.
Snapchat lists Solar System among the exclusive features available with Snapchat+.
This is one of the most important points for people searching for “how to check Snapchat planets.” If you are using the standard Snapchat experience and cannot find the planet feature, the issue may not be your phone or account settings. You may simply not have access to the Snapchat+ feature.
Snapchat+ includes premium, experimental and pre-release features, and the available features can change over time.
Why Can’t I See Snapchat Planets?
There are several reasons the Solar System may not appear.
1. You do not have Snapchat+
The first thing to check is your subscription.
Friend Solar System is listed by Snapchat as a Snapchat+ feature.
2. Solar System is turned off
Snapchat says Friend Solar System is off by default for first-time Snapchat+ subscribers.
To use it, Snapchat instructs subscribers to visit the Snapchat+ feature management area and turn the feature on. It can also be switched off again later.
3. You are checking the wrong profile
The planet is accessed through a person’s Friendship Profile, rather than simply opening your general Snapchat profile.
Make sure you are looking at the profile for the specific friend you want to check.
4. You are not among that person’s Best Friends
Snapchat’s Solar System represents positions within the person’s eight Best Friends.
If you are not in that group, there may be no planet position for you to view.
Snapchat also explains that Best Friends are determined by who someone Snaps and Chats with most, and the list is updated regularly.
5. Your Snapchat app is outdated
If a feature does not appear as expected, update Snapchat through your device’s app store and reopen the application.
6. Snapchat has changed the interface
Snapchat frequently changes its interface and feature placement. A missing button does not necessarily mean that the feature has been permanently removed.
Check the Snapchat+ feature management area and the relevant Friendship Profile.

Can You Check Your Own Snapchat Planet?
This is where the Friend Solar System can be confusing.
The planet describes your position in another person’s Best Friends list. It is therefore normally viewed in relation to that specific friend’s Friendship Profile.
For example, suppose you and Sarah use Snapchat regularly.
If Snapchat shows you as:
- Mercury in Sarah’s Solar System, you are #1 in Sarah’s Best Friends.
- Earth, you are #3.
- Saturn, you are #6.
- Neptune, you are #8.
Your planet can therefore differ from one friend to another.
You might be Mercury for one person, Mars for another and not appear in another person’s Solar System at all.
Can You See Someone Else’s Snapchat Planet?
The feature is designed to show your position in their Solar System, rather than giving you a public list of all their Best Friends.
Snapchat says tapping the Best Friends badge shows which planet you are in the other person’s Solar System.
This distinction matters because Snapchat does not simply expose someone’s complete Best Friends ranking to everyone.
According to Snapchat, people may see if they are among your Best Friends, but other people cannot see your complete Best Friends list.

Does Your Snapchat Planet Mean You Are Their Best Friend?
It can, but only if the planet corresponds to the first position.
For example:
Mercury = #1 position
That means you currently occupy the first position in that friend’s Best Friends list.
However, it is better to think of the planet as a current ranking signal based on Snapchat interaction, not a permanent relationship label.
Snapchat says Best Friends are based on people you Snap and Chat with the most and that the list is updated regularly.
Your position can therefore change as your Snapchat activity changes.
Can Your Snapchat Planet Change?
Yes.
Because Best Friends are updated regularly, your Solar System position can change.
Imagine you are currently Mercury for a friend. If that friend begins Snapping and Chatting more frequently with someone else, your position could move down.
For example:
Monday: Mercury
Wednesday: Venus
Saturday: Earth
That does not necessarily mean something dramatic happened in the friendship. It can simply reflect changes in Snapchat interaction.
This is one reason you should not treat a planet ranking as a complete measurement of a real-world friendship.
Snapchat Planets vs. Best Friends
These terms are closely connected but are not exactly the same thing.
| Feature | What it tells you |
| Best Friends | People you interact with most through Snaps and Chats |
| Friend Solar System | Your position among another person’s Best Friends |
| Snapchat planet | The planet representing that position |
| Friendship Profile | Where you can access friendship-related information |
| Snapchat+ | Subscription that includes Friend Solar System |
Snapchat says users can have up to eight Best Friends, and those people are featured prominently in places such as the Send To screen and Chat section.

How Snapchat Planets Are Different From Snapchat Astrology?
This is an important distinction because the phrase Snapchat planets can refer to two completely different features.
Friend Solar System
The Friend Solar System uses eight planets:
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
These planets represent your position in another person’s Best Friends list.
Astrological Profile
Snapchat also has an Astrological Profile.
This is a separate feature based on astrology. Snapchat says the Astrological Profile covers ten celestial bodies, including the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Pluto and Uranus.
You can access your Astrological Profile from your Snapchat profile by tapping the astrological sign next to your name. Snapchat then asks for information such as your birthday, time of birth and place of birth.
So:
Friend Solar System = friendship ranking
Astrological Profile = astrology
If you searched “how to check Snapchat planets” because someone told you that you are their Mercury or Venus, you are almost certainly looking for the Friend Solar System.
What Does Mercury Mean on Snapchat?
On Snapchat’s Friend Solar System, Mercury means the #1 position.
It does not mean that you have the Mercury planet in your astrological birth chart.
This is an important semantic distinction.
If a friend tells you, “You’re my Mercury,” they are talking about Snapchat’s Friend Solar System, not necessarily astrology.

What Does Venus Mean on Snapchat?
Venus represents the second position in a friend’s Best Friends list.
It means you are currently ranked second among that person’s eight Best Friends.
What Does Earth Mean on Snapchat?
Earth represents the third position.
The planet itself is simply part of Snapchat’s visual ranking system. It should not be interpreted as an astrological compatibility result.
What Does Mars Mean on Snapchat?
Mars represents the fourth position in the Friend Solar System.
If your Friendmoji is shown as Mars, you are currently fourth among that person’s Best Friends.
What Does Jupiter Mean on Snapchat?
Jupiter represents the fifth position.
It is in the middle of the eight available Best Friends positions.
What Does Saturn Mean on Snapchat?
Saturn represents the sixth position.
It is lower on the Best Friends ranking than Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars and Jupiter.
What Does Uranus Mean on Snapchat?
Uranus represents the seventh position.
Only Neptune is farther from the first position in the eight-planet Friend Solar System.
What Does Neptune Mean on Snapchat?
Neptune represents the eighth position.
It is the final position available in the Friend Solar System because Snapchat uses the eight-person Best Friends group.
Does Snapchat Planet Ranking Show Who Someone Talks to Most?
It is better to say that the ranking reflects Snapchat’s Best Friends system, which Snapchat describes as being based on people you Snap and Chat with most.
That does not give you access to a person’s private conversation history, exact message counts or a complete ranking of every person they communicate with.
Snapchat specifically says the Best Friends list can contain up to eight people and is updated regularly.

Can Someone See Your Entire Best Friends List?
No.
Snapchat states that people may see if they are among your Best Friends, but other people cannot see your complete Best Friends list.
This means the Solar System should not be treated as a tool for exposing someone’s entire social network.
Is the Snapchat Planet Ranking Permanent?
No.
The ranking is connected to the Best Friends system, which Snapchat says is updated regularly.
If your Snapchat interaction changes, your position can change as well.
That makes the feature more like a snapshot of your current Snapchat relationship than a permanent label.
A Simple Example of Snapchat Planets
Suppose Alex has eight Best Friends.
Their ranking could be:
- Mercury: You
- Venus: Friend B
- Earth: Friend C
- Mars: Friend D
- Jupiter: Friend E
- Saturn: Friend F
- Uranus: Friend G
- Neptune: Friend H
If you are Alex’s Mercury, you occupy the first position.
If you later become Venus, you have moved to second.
The names of the other friends are not revealed simply because you can see your own planet.
What If Snapchat Says You Are a Best Friend but No Planet Appears?
Start with the feature settings.
Snapchat says Solar System is initially turned off for first-time Snapchat+ subscribers.
Try this troubleshooting sequence:
- Confirm that you have Snapchat+.
- Open the Snapchat+ feature management settings.
- Make sure Solar System is enabled.
- Open the friend’s Friendship Profile.
- Look for the Best Friends badge with the gold ring.
- Tap the badge.
- If it still does not appear, update Snapchat and restart the app.
Also remember that Snapchat can modify its interface, so the exact location of controls may vary between app versions.

Does Snapchat Planet Mean Someone Likes You?
Not necessarily.
A high Snapchat planet position means you occupy a high position in the Best Friends system. It does not prove romantic interest, emotional closeness or the quality of a real-world relationship.
Someone may have a high ranking because you communicate frequently on Snapchat.
Likewise, someone can be an important friend in real life without appearing near the top of a Snapchat ranking.
The safest interpretation is:
Your planet shows your current position in that person’s Snapchat Best Friends system, not their feelings about you.
How to Use Snapchat Planets Without Misreading Them?
If you use the feature for fun, it can be an interesting way to see how your Snapchat interactions compare over time.
But avoid treating the ranking as a definitive relationship score.
A better way to interpret it is:
- Mercury means #1 in that Best Friends ranking.
- Neptune means #8.
- Your position can change.
- The ranking reflects Snapchat activity.
- It does not reveal someone’s complete Best Friends list.
- It does not prove romantic feelings.
- It is separate from Snapchat Astrology.
That distinction prevents most of the confusion surrounding Snapchat planets.
Quick Answer: How to Check Snapchat Planets?
